New Year, New Habits...

Oh the time of New Year's Resolutions! Now, the end of the year has compressed so many things from October to January. So now we can get work done! So I have some ideas I've been collecting about habits...

An anecdote goes that a non-smoker approached a smoker and asked how much a pack of cigarettes cost. The smoker replied “$4.” The non-smoker self-righteously said “If you have saved the money you spent on cigarettes, you would be driving a Maserati”. The smoker replied “Well you don't smoke, so where is yours?” The point is that when you save time by eliminating wasteful activities, don't fritter away that time. Accomplish something and buy your own Maserati.

General Habits

Avoid Social Media like the plague
Don't engage in Fantasy sport leagues.
Learn to say “no” to invitations, especially if they cut into work time.
Avoid phone conversations if at all possible.
Avoid back-and-forth text conversations. Ask a direct question via text and answer succinctly, with directions on what to do.
Listen to books when you are driving, not taking time to read them. Or better yet, listen to the condensed versions.
Read newspapers online, preferably with a news aggregator. If not, you will get sucked into reading more than you need.
Always get your meals to go at a fast-food restaurant, whether you are eating there or not. Always ask for “light ice” in your drink. And always ask for water with your drink at a sit-down restaurant.
Always fill up your gas tank to full instead of $10 or whatever.
Make every bill (and cheque) Autopay.
Keep a “fun” bag in your car with a towel, swimsuit, sunscreen, good book and sunscreen for impromptu picnics or trips to a beach/pool.
Don't binge on Netflix or Amazon Prime. It leads to self-loathing and kills motivation.

Use an online notekeeper like Evernote or Google Keep to keep track of all the brilliant ideas you have during the day.
